David Buckingham

Emeritus Professor

David Buckingham is an Emeritus Professor in Media and Communications at Loughborough University, and Visiting Professor at Kings College, London. He has directed numerous research projects on young people’s interactions with media, and on media literacy education, funded by UK research councils, the European Commission and charitable foundations. He is the author, co-author or editor of 30 books and more than 240 scholarly articles and book chapters. He has presented at conferences in 40 countries around the world, and his work has been translated into 15 languages. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and the Academy of Social Sciences, and is currently a Leverhulme Trust Emeritus Fellow. His most recent work is a collection of essays entitled ‘Growing Up Modern: Childhood, Youth and Popular Culture Since 1945’; and a ‘manifesto’ on media education, recently published by Polity Press.
