Guna Spurava

Head of UNESCO Chair

As a head of UNESCO Chair on Media and Information Literacy Guna Spurava is working on promoting media literacy in society, especially focusing on librarians, teachers and also on the youth agency in this area. Guna is also a research assistant and lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Communication Studies at the University of Latvia. She is working on the development of media literacy research focusing on practices of young people’s media use. Since 2011 Guna is a member of EU Kids Online research network. She is the author of the study initiated and financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia on the media literacy of children and adolescents in Latvia. Guna has also been teaching media economy and media research methods at the University of Latvia. Over the course of her professional career, she has been heavily involved in different aspects of the Latvian media landscape, with a focus on media publishing management. Guna Spurava is working now on organizing new Baltic Center for Media Literacy headquartered in Riga.
